WIP Wednesday: Bees and skirts

It seems WIP Wednesday is just about all the blogging I have time for lately. Oh, well. It just means more time for sewing and an easier round-up post for you. This was another fun week -- I made myself a skirt!
I always have grand plans to sew clothing for myself, and then those projects get endlessly delayed, but I was determined to make myself a light chambray skirt for the summer, and this time, I actually did it. I used a lovely Robert Kaufman chambray and Noodlehead's vintage-inspired skirt tutorial, which worked out perfectly. After reading some of the comments on the tutorial, I ended up using 1.5 times my waist measurement instead of the 2 times she suggests, and I'm so glad I did. Two times would have added way too much bulk for me, and this amount of gathering was just right. I love it!
I also finished my June bee blocks for the do.Good Stitches Emerge Circle. This is our first month as a new do.Good Stitches circle, and it's so fun to finally be in a bee! Kelly asked for two blocks using the Bright Birch Trees pattern from Crazy Mom Quilts. The backgrounds were supposed to be blue, green, or gray, and the "trees" are made of scraps in "manly" colors. I definitely don't have a shortage of those colors in my stash. :) Hope she likes these!
Finally, I started on the new perfect quilted tote I'm making for an STLMQG charity project. The outside pieces are all marked and ready for some quilting, and I'll be using scraps in various pinks and aquas (basket on the right below). I am ready for a project like this!

  1. I have to do a similar block for my June bee! I'm a little nervous about it, the pattern is intense. Yours look fantastic!
