WIP Wednesday: Binding and arching

Sorry for the little bit of radio silence, but it's that crazy beginning of fall rush around here. And it's definitely one of those periods where it seems like every time I mark one thing off the to do list, five more things get added. Such is life, I suppose.

First, I finished quilting my Fancy Fox and Hazel Hedgehog mini from the Elizabeth Hartman workshop I took a few weeks ago. I was also able to assemble my Vintage Quilt Revival blocks from QuiltCon into a mini sampler baby quilt, which also got quilted. So these two just need a little more binding to go into the history books.
Last weekend, I took an amazing workshop with Carolyn Friedlander to learn her needle-turn applique technique (more on that in a future post), so now I have this Catenary quilt mini to add to my list. I think this will be an ongoing project that I'll work on as I have time, but it'll be nice to have a hand-sewing project to turn to.
Next, I need to knock out a little baby blanket (for which I've pulled some cute Ann Kelle dinosaur fabric) and then finally finish (ahem, start) my Washi top. It's on!

The neverending to do list:
QuiltCon triangle challenge quilt
QuiltCon bonus quilt
Dinosaur patchwork blanket
September Emerge Circle quilt
Vintage Quilt Revival mini sampler quilt
Catenary mini quilt
Jewelry travel pouch
Patchwork City sampler quilt
Allie Owl quilt
Menagerie quilt
Hazel Hedgehog quilt
The Kittens quilt
Aviatrix Medallion quilt
Swoon quilt
Spiced Chai quilt (from Vintage Quilt Revival)
Sunset Tiles quilt (from Scraps Inc.)
T-shirt quilt
Sewing circle tote
Re-cover downstairs chair
Clothing for me! (Washi Dress, Sailor Top Shirt, Sorbetto Top)

A big Texas wedding

For Labor Day weekend, we headed down south to Texas again but for a very good reason -- my baby sister got hitched! We arrived a few days early to enjoy some extra family time and help with preparations. We managed to squeeze in a mother/daughters lunch and trip to the spa (a wedding necessity) before the real craziness set in.
By Friday, it was on to last-minute errands, the rehearsal, and the rehearsal dinner. A lot of our Georgia family was able to come in for the wedding, and it was so good to see them and the other grandparents.
The wedding was in the evening, so the wedding day was actually pretty relaxed. The girls all got their hair done before heading to the bridal suite to get pampered and dressed. The hours seemed to crawl by before the big moment arrived, but everything went off without a hitch once it started.
My older sister and I were the matrons of honor, Matt performed the ceremony, and B was the ring bearer, so it was a true family affair.

True to form for Texas, it ended up being a super hot day, so we were all pretty drenched once the dancing started, but no one really cared. I guess that's one benefit of having a long, layered, black dress --  it hides a lot. :)
My little Houd did such a beautiful job of designing the whole event, and it was a truly lovely evening. They are the cutest couple, and I'm so happy to have another brother-in-law!

WIP Wednesday: New projects!

It's been a while since my last WIP check in, but that doesn't mean things haven't been progressing over here. In case you missed it, I finished my August and September blocks for the do.Good Stitches Emerge circle, my block for Robert Kaufman's Rhoda Ruth Block Challenge, and my big, secret wedding quilt, the Lucky Strikes quilt! Whew.
And while that's all behind me, there's no shortage of projects ahead. First up, I'm finishing my Fancy Fox and Hazel Hedgehog mini from the Elizabeth Hartman workshop I took last weekend. I managed to get the glasses added to one of the foxes and finished the top, so now it's time to get quilting.

(Noticed my little fox in his dad's glasses looks an awful lot like the quilted fox in his glasses)

Once that's wrapped, I think I'll turn my sights back to my long-neglected Washi top. The pattern is cut, the fabric is washed, and now I just need to dive in.
Then, I have two smaller quilt projects to wrap up before moving on to my QuiltCon quilts (which are top secret for now). I'm planning to turn the Vintage Quilt Revival blocks I made at the last QuiltCon into a baby quilt for charity, and I have a simple patchwork dinosaur quilt that's also in the works. It should be nice to have a few quickie projects.
