Some clutch clutches

Look for a few more posts in the coming weeks about the rest of my handmade Christmas gifts. These lovelies were some of the first gifts I made, all the way back in November. When I saw Noodlehead's Gathered Clutch tutorial featured on Sew, Mama, Sew's Handmade Holidays list, I knew I had to make them. And all the talk about these guys in the blogosphere has proven I wasn't the only one drawn in; these must have been one of the most popular tutorials of the holiday season.
They were super quick to put together, and I love the way they turned out. All of the fabrics were purchased at Joann's (sorry I don't remember what they were!). Note: this is a great fat quarter project, too! I chose not to do the optional card lining on these because I thought it would make them more multifunctional for the girlfriends who received them, but down the road, I make one for myself as a wallet. I love how many options there are for combining different colors and fabrics, and I can't wait to make more!

  1. I just made my first on but after it was complete, the zipper tabs do not show at all? Any idea what I did wrong?

  2. Hey, Tracy! I'm no expert, so I can only guess, but maybe I can help. You mean the pull tabs aren't showing? When you had the two sides separated and were sewing them closed, did you accidentally sew over the pull tabs? (This is the last pictured step in Noodlehead's tutorial.) If so, then the tabs would be covered when you turned the bag right side out. You have to be really careful to sew right up to the zipper but not over it (believe me, it's easy to do; I made this mistake the first couple of times and had to pull out the old seam ripper). If that's not it, I'm not sure. Maybe you could leave a comment on Noodlehead's blog (linked above). She's probably made way more of these than I have and might have some better insight. Hope that helps!
